Is your car from the EU?

If you are not importing a car into the UK under the ToR scheme, you will be required to pay VAT when bringing a second-hand car from the EU. There are no duties to pay, and for cars older than thirty years, the VAT rate is reduced to 5%.

What is the ToR scheme?

What about cars from outside of the EU?

What is Notification of Vehicle Arrival (NOVA)?

Anyone importing a motorized land vehicle into the UK, from the EU or elsewhere, must notify HMRC within 14 days of arrival to confirm payment or securing of any applicable VAT or duties.
